Two Bangladeshi table tennis players were banned by Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) as they visited London, the capital city of England when the Commonwealth Games was going underway at Birmingham of England. Sonom Sultana Shoma and Sadia Rahman Mou went to London when their respective table tennis events was held at Birmingham on August 5. Shoma was scheduled to play in the mixed doubles event with her compatriot Hamjah, while Shoma-Mou duo was scheduled to play in women’s doubles.
But as they were not present in the due time of their events, their opponents got walkover in those two events of the table tennis competition of Commonwealth Games. They could not present in their respective events as they visited their relatives house in London. They gave a status on the Facebook. They wrote, ” We are now in London.” Before Shoma’s event, she told to her teammates and officials that she got pain. But a question was arisen if she is injured, she would take rest in the Village of Commonwealth Games. But she did not do that. She went to London.
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) issued showcause notices to Shoma and Mou. The BTTF asked them in the notice, why they will not be banned by BTTF as their misdeed made Bangladesh’s image bad in the international sports area.
Manager of Bangladesh Table Tennis team and General Secretary of BTTF Jahangir Alam said, ” We banned Shoma and Mou. After their reply of showcause notices, the BTTF banned them. Shoma and Mou failed to satisfactory answers in their notices.”
