Two addl AGs resign, new AG takes charge

Two additional attorney generals of the state, Murad Reza and Momtaz Uddin Fakir, resigned from their posts on Sunday, three days after the appointment of AM Amin Uddin as attorney general.
Momtaz Uddin Fakir submitted his resignation letter to the solicitor department of the attorney general office on Sunday morning and Murad Reza has sent his resignation letter directly to the law ministry.
Meanwhile, the newly-appointed attorney general AM Amin Uddin took the charge yesterday. He then also participated in the hearing as the attorney general.
After the court functions lawyers from various corners and organizations congratulated him. At that time he sought cooperation of all in discharging his duties.
Murad Reza has been serving in the post of additional attorney general since March 27, 2009 and Momtaz Uddin was appointed to the post on July 4, 2010.
In the resignation letters, they mentioned personnel reasons behind stepping down from the posts.
Momtaz Uddin Fakir told the reporters that he decided to resign from the post much earlier as he had some personal issues, but Murad Reza refused to give details about the reason behind his resignation.
President Md Abdul Hamid appointed senior lawyer and Supreme Court Bar Association’s President AM Amin Uddin as the 16th attorney general of the country on October 8.
The post of attorney general fell vacant after Mahbubey Alam passed away on September 27.
At present, there are the attorney general, one additional attorney general, 67 deputy attorney generals and 155 assistant attorney generals for moving cases on behalf of the state before the Supreme Court.
