Twin sisters while playing together at home premises met tragic end of their lives after drowning in the pond beside their home on Saturday afternoon at Farakkabad area under Chandpur Sadar.
The deceased babies were identified as Adifa Akter and Sadiya Akter, both 18 -month- old daughters of Md Manik Miji at the same area under Chandpur Sadar Upazila.
When contacted, their paternal uncle Shohag Miji told this correspondent that while playing together at 12.30 pm, one child suddenly slipped into the pond. Then another also slipped into pond when she was trying to catch the other. They were missing for two hours . After frantic search around in all possible places, they were spotted floating in the pond. At once, they were rescued and rushed to Chandpur General Hospital where the on duty doctor Md Noor-e- Alam declared the twin sisters dead at around 3 pm.
Following their sudden death, a pall of gloom has descended upon the area.
