Stalking protested: Twin college girls beaten in city

Stalkers assaulted two female college students for protesting hurling abusive words at them (girl students) at Zoo Road in Mirpur area in the city on Wednesday morning.
The injured college girls have been identified as Fariha Habib and Ashowad Habib. They are twin sisters and HSC first-year students of Mirpur BCIC College, said Seyed Mamun Mustafa, Assistant Commissioner (Darus Salam circle) of Mirpur Division.
Local and eyewitness said Jibon Karim Babu, owner of the hotel in front of the college premises, hurled abusive words at them when they were waiting for a bus around 11:10am yesterday.
When the twin sisters protested against the insult, Babu along with his two staff swooped on them with bamboo sticks leaving them critically injured. Later, twin sisters were admitted at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pongu Hospital) in a critical condition, the AC said.
As soon as the news spread, agitated teachers and students rushed to the spot to resist the stalkers but the miscreants again attacked on them.
Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shah Ali Police Station, said, a case was filed in this connection and we are trying to arrest the stalkers. “The victims’ father Habibur Rahman filed a case with the Shah Ali Police Station,” he said.
Police also detained two persons in front of the BCIC College for interrogation in this connection. They are Jibon Karim alias Babu, owner of the hotel and its employee Babu Mia, the police official said.The arrestees were interrogated at police custody in this connection, the police official said.
BCIC College Principal Masudur Rahman said that twin sisters are very polite girls.He said hurling abusive words targeting the college girls by some locals and hotel staffs is nothing new. “We want justice,” he said.
