Bangla TV channel’s Chandpur Dist Correspondent Md Manik Patwary died on Wednesday in a private hospital in the city. He was 35. He left behind his wife, three daughters and a host of friends and admirers to mourn his premature death.
He was laid to rest at Chandpur Municipal graveyard after namajey janaja held beside his home at the premises of Patwary Bari Jamey Masjid at Koralia area in the district town on Thursday last. Before janaja, Chandpur Press Club’s former President Golam Kibria Jiban(BTV and Ittefaq), Manik’s younger brother Khokan Patwary, Sadar Upazila AL leader Ali Arshad Miaji among others spoke recalling his good activities as a TV journalist.
It may be noted here that on 23 January at noon, Manik along with ETV and Bangladesh Protidin’s District Correspondent Neyamat Hossain was going to Hajiganj by his( Manik’s) motorbike for covering a news and video. But when they reached near Bakila Bazar, a sand- laden speedy tractor crashed them leaving them seriously injured near Bakila Bazar under Hajiganj Upazila on Chandpur- Cumilla Regional highway. They were lying unconscious and uncared for for some time on the road. Then being sympathetic, a few locals and pedestrians rescued and rushed them both to Chandpur General Hospital.
As their condition was stated to be critical later, they both were referred to Dhaka Pangu Hospital. Lastly, Manik succumbed to his injuries in a private clinic in the city on Wednesday. Contacted, Neyamat’s wife Hosne Ara Niru(teacher) said, Neyamat Hossain is steadily improving at Dhaka Pangu Hospital. His right leg got fractured while Manik’s hands, chest, neck and legs were hard hit in the accident..
