State Minister for Social Welfare Nuruzzaman Ahmed, MP, has called for taking proper care of the disabled people to turn them into human resources for ensuring their participation in the national development process. “The physically challenged people are not at all burden of the society and they could do the same as the able people to contribute to national advancement if provided them with education and necessary training,” he said.
The State Minsiter said this at a function arranged for providing mobile van therapy services to the disabled people at Karim Uddin Pilot High School ground under Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat on Sunday as the chief guest. Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services (DSS) for Lalmonirhat Mossarraf Hossain presided over the function organised by Lalmonirhat Protibondhi Seba O Sahajjo Kendra (LPSSK).
Headmaster of the high school Khurshiduzzaman Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj Thana AM Sajjad Hossain, President of Kaliganj upazila Jubo League Refaz Ranga and Disability Affairs Officer Farman Ali, addressed, among others.
The State Minsiter said that the present government had already set up 103 Protibondhi Seba O Sahajjo Kendra throughout the country to provide the disabled population with mobile therapy free of costs for their rehabilitation in the society.
“The government has been working to set up at least one Protibondhi Seba O Sahajjo Kendra in every upazila,” he said adding that many disabled people had been contributing to economic development of the country after getting necessary training.
“Side by side with providing allowances, the present government led by Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina has been implementing various programmes to turn the disabled people into productive human resources for ensuring their welfare and development,” he said.
