Turkmenistan emerged as the champions of the Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship when they beat Maldives by 3-2 sets in the final at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan finished third when they defeated Nepal by 3-2 sets in a place-deciding match at the same venue on the same day.
The champions were awarded US dollars one thousand as prize-money while the runners-up were given US dollars five thousand. Sazid Islam of Maldives was adjudged the Man of the Tournament and got US dollars five thousand as prize-money.
Chairperson of Crony Group Neela Hosne Ara was the sponsor of the prize-money.
After the final match State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder, MP distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
Managing Director of Dutc-Bangla Bank Limited KS Tabrez, President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) Md Atiqul Islam, Senior Vice-President of BVF AH Aslam Sunny, Vice-President of the Federation Mostafa Kamal, General Secretary of BVF Ashiqur Rahman Miku, Co-Organising Secretary of the Tournament Committee Advocate Fazle Rabbi Babul were present at the time.
