Turkmenistan champions in Bangabandhu Volleyball Championship

High flying Turkmenistan came from behind to beat Bangladesh by 3-1 sets in the final and emerged as the champions of the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone International Volleyball Championship on Friday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur. Bangladesh became runners-up in the meet.
Defending champion Bangladesh made a bright start, despite trailing through the first they came back brilliantly to win the first set by 26-24 points. However, unbeaten Bangladesh failed to match the tall, well built rival players. Visitors came back strongly to win the next three sets with superior display.
Earlier in the afternoon, Kyrgyzstan defeated Nepal by 3-0 sets to achieve the third place.
After the final match, Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest, while AKM Rahmatullah, MP, BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon, MP, Elias Mollah, MP, Nazma Akter, MP, were with him as special guests.
President of Bangladesh Volleyball Federation (BVF) Md Atiqul Islam, General Secretary of BVF Ashiur Rahman Miku were present at the time.
