Turkish military strikes kill 28 ISIL militants in Syria

Hurriyet Daily News, Ankara :Turkish artillery strikes have destroyed dozens of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) targets in northern Syria and killed 28 militants of the group, the Turkish military said on May 30.In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said 58 positions in Aleppo province were hit on May 29, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 ISIL fighters. Two bomb-laden vehicles were also destroyed in the fire. This is the third consecutive day that Turkey has hit ISIL positions in Syria after rockets fired from ISIL-controlled territory in Syria hit the southern border province of Kilis on May 27, wounding five people, and another border province, Gaziantep, on May 28. The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said they and U.S.-led coalition planes killed a total of 144 ISIL militants in Syria in separate strikes on May 27 and May 28. Rocket attacks from the ISIL-controlled Bab region have claimed the lives of 21 people, including eight Syrians, in Kilis since January. Separately, the Turkish Air Force targeted five outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in northern Iraq’s Metina region overnight on May 29.
