Turkish Airways on Sunday started re-issuing return tickets to Italy-bound Bangladeshi expatriates.
“We have started re-issuing return tickets in the morning from our Gulshan office to Italy bound Bangladeshi expatriates having valid resident permits,” said Ejaz Kadry, sales and traffic official of Turkish Airlines.
He said there are at least 2,000 Italy-bound passengers who have valid residence permits to go to Italy by Turkish Airlines.
Since the morning, several hundred Italy-bound expatriates started gathering at the Turkish Airlines office at Gulshan in the capital to re-issue their return tickets.
In the beginning of starting queue, a chaotic situation was created there, but after announcing from the airways that only those who had return tickets and valid residence permit will get tickets, the situation became normal.
The airlines authority distributed forms to the expatriates to fill with their name, mobile number, previous ticket number and expiry date of their vacation period.
Officials of Turkish Airways said they were giving tickets only to those whose residency permit will expire by the end of November.
They will give tickets to all gradually.
Turkish Airlines is operating seven flights weekly from Dhaka to Istanbul, and carries passengers to several destinations in Italy.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, no air operator will be able to carry more than 260 passengers in large aircrafts.
Apart from Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways and Emirates are also carrying Bangladeshi passengers to Italy after a pause in their respective countries.
