Turkey has reacted to war criminal Mir Quasem Ali’s execution and identified him as key-financer of Jamaat-e-Islami.
“We’ve learned with sorrow that the death sentence issued by the International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh against Mir Quasem Ali, key-financier and central executive council member of the Jamaat-e-Islami, has been executed in Bangladesh,” Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
It stressed once again that the wounds of the past cannot be healed with these methods. Turkey hoped that “this wrong practice” will not lead to separation among the brotherly people of Bangladesh.
However, there is no official reaction from Dhaka yet over the statement.
In August 18, Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Devrim Ozturk said his country does not have any intention to interfere in Bangladesh’s internal affairs. Describing Turkish relations with Bangladesh are ‘very good and cordial’, the diplomat said what they do is just ‘brotherly advice’ but not interference in Bangladesh’s domestic affairs. Both countries had called back their respective Ambassadors for ‘consultations’ following the execution of war criminal Motiur Rahman Nizami. He was executed on May 11 this year.
