682 workers of Tuba Group took salaries of July and overtime bills from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Bhaban in the city’s Kawran Bazar area on Sunday.
The decision of payment and overtime allowances of July came from a tripartite meeting with workers leaders, the government agents and BGMEA leaders on Saturday, where Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan and State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu were present.
State Minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu, while visiting the BGMEA on Sunday, said that if the factories of the Tuba Group would be closed due to any reasons, then the factory’s workers will get three months advanced salaries and allowances according to the country’s existing Labour Act.
He said that the running and closing decision of the factories only depend on the owners of the group.
The BGMEA has already paid the salary to the workers for the months of May and June on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
