Holy Ramzan: Truth arrived falsehood perished

The 21st Ramzan reminds us of the great victory of the city of Makka by the noble companions of Rasulullah (Sm) under his leadership.
The Tawrat says, “He will come with ten thousand righteous
companions”. The prophecy came true in this victory.
The Hijrat of Rasulullah (Sm) to Madina was for a safe shelter there for the propagation of Islam. But, the infidels chased them and attacked them again and again. The Jihad of Badr, Ohud and Khondok followed. Rasulullah (Sm) tried his best to avoid war.
Treaty of Hudaibiah was signed with the invaders on 628 A.D. But before two years passed, the Quraish violated the treaty. Their role was treacherous. They began to kill the people of Bani Kurayza tribe, loyal to Rasulullah (Sm). People could not save their lives even on taking shelter in the Baitullah. They complained this to the Messenger of Allah and sought his help. He tried to solve it peacefully. But, all the sincere efforts to keep the Quraish abstaining from oppression failed. At last Rasulullah (Sm) called his followers for expedition to Makka. On the 10th Ramzan, 8th Hijri, the Sahabis marched. After facing many obstacles they reached Makka on the 20th Ramzan. Rasulullah (Sm) made Tawaf of the Holy Ka’ba and removed the idols reciting the verses of the Holy Quran:
“And say: Truth hath come and falsehood hath vanished away. Lo! falsehood is ever bound to vanish.” (Verse 81, Al-Isra/Bani Israel, The Glorious Qur’an by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall)
“And say: Truth has (now)/Arrived, and Falsehood perished:/For Falsehood is (by its nature)/Bound to perish.” (Verse 81, Sura Bani Israel 17, The Holy Quran Translation and Commentary by Allama Yusuf Ali)
The comment on this Verse by Allama Yusuf Ali is: “From its nature falsehood must perish, for it is the opposite of Truth and Truth must ever prevail.”
In this context, the Verse number 80 seems to have some relevance to the victory of Makka. The Holy Quran reveals: “And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining power.” (The Glorious Qur’an by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall)
“Say: O my Lord !/Let my entry be/by the gate of Truth/And Honour, and likewise/My exit by the Gate /Of Truth and Honour; /And grant me/From Thy Presence/An authority to aid (me).” (The Holy Quran Translation and Commentary by Allama Yusuf Ali)
Allama Yusuf Ali’s comment: “The entry and exit here referred to may be interpreted in four senses: 1. Entry into death and exit at the resurrection: for the righteous, who have purified their souls by prayer (last verse) and spiritual teaching from the Holy Qur-an (next verse), there is on each occasion a fuller and fuller realisation and enjoyment of truth and honour: for those who are estranged from God, the affect is the opposite: the truth becomes bitter and there is ignominy and exposure instead of honour: 2. Entry for the Holy Prophet into the new life at Medina, which was still in the womb of futurity, and exit from the life of persecution and milieu of falsehood, which surrounded him in his native city of Mecca still given up to idolatry: 3. Referring to the impending Hijrat again, the prayer may mean, “Let it be from pure motives of truth and spiritual honour, and not from motives of anger against the city of Mecca or its persecutors, or of ambition or worldly power from the city of Medina, which was ready to lay everything at the Apostle’s feet:” 4. generally, entry and exit at every stage of life.
The Verse number 79: “And some part of the night awake for it, a largess for the. It may be that Thy Lord will raise thee to a praised estate.” (The Glorious Qur’an by Marmaduke Pickthall)
“And pray in the small watches/Of the morning: (it wouild be)/ An additional prayer/(Or spiritual profit)/For thee: soon will thy Lord/Raise the to a Station/Of Praise and Glory.” (The Holy Qur’an Translation and Commentary by Allama Yusuf Ali)
Allama Yusuf Ali comments: “To the Prophet was to be asigned in the Hereafter the Highest Post of Honour and Glory-the Maqam Mahmud. There is much mystic meaning in this, implying his excellence above all other Prophets. The immediate reference may be to the hope that the Meccan persecution will soon be over and the glorious work in Medina will begin.” (The Holy Quran Translation and Commentary)
The Holy Quran reveals: “Say: The Truth hath come, and falsehood showeth not its face and will not return.” (Verse 49, Sura Saba 34, The Meanings of The Glorious Qur’an by Muhammad Marmaduke Pickthall)
“Say: The Truth has arrived, /And falsehood neither creates/ Anything new, nor restores/Anything.” (Verse 49 Sura Saba 34, The Holy Qur’an Translation and Commentary)
Allama Yusuf Ali comments: “The fourth argument is that the Truth is final: it does not come and go: it creates new situations and new developments, and if by any chance it seems to be defeated for a time, it comes back and restores the true balance; unlike Falsehood, which by its very nature is doomed to perish: XVii. 81. The Prophet’s credentials are known by the test of time. This was already becoming apparent to discerning eyes when this Sura was revealed in Mecca, but it became clear to the whole world with the story of Islam’s progress in Medina.” (The Holy Quran Translation and Commentary by Allama Yusuf Ali)
Rasulullah prayed there and proclaimed the end of the age of darkness and ignorance. The victory of Makka was completed on the 21st Ramzan. Some historians differ on the date.
This victory was unique in the history of mankind. There was no revenge, no bloodshed. The greatest Prophet of Islam, who was Rahmatullil ‘Aalameen (Mercy for the creatures) proclaimed amnesty. The universal brotherhood of Islam demonstrated its ideal character there. Rasulullah (Sm), said, “Today there is no complaint against you. Go, I free you. You are free.”
