A truck carrying more than 50 passengers was detained at Ishwardi while people were being transported by truck due to lockdown. Pakshi Highway Police arrested the truck carrying 63 passengers around 1.30pm on Sunday.
Highway Police OC Moniruzzaman said the truck was heading to Jashore from Dhaka late at night. When the Pakshi Highway Police gave a signal at the check post at Dashuria traffic intersection, the truck disobeyed the signal and tried to speed away. Pakshi Highway police chased the truck for disobeying the signal. After a chase of about 13 km, the police were able to stop the truck in front of the Rooppur gas pump. The trunk of the truck was tied with a rope after the goods were loaded and covered with a triple on the trunk of the truck. Seen from the outside, there is no way to understand that there are people inside. It seems that there is a truck loaded with goods.
At this stage, the driver admitted during the interrogation that there are no products inside the truck. A total of 63 passengers, including men and women, got out of the truck after removing the triple. However, there was also a small charger fan inside. The passengers said that they boarded the truck to return home from different areas of Dhaka.
The Highway Police official further said that they are always trying to fulfill their responsibilities to implement the government’s directive to implement the strict lockdown from Wednesday. The truck was taken into police custody and a case was filed against the driver on Sunday. Arrangements were made for the passengers of the truck to cross the Lalon Shah Bridge, he said, adding that they had gone to their destination.
Meanwhile, a few more people were unloaded from the pickup truck from Sunday morning to noon. It is learned that the highway police has managed 4 buses for these passengers and sent them to different destinations.
