Rapid Action Battalion seized a truck loaded with ‘smuggled’ onions and arrested the truck driver and his assistant in Sylhet on Friday afternoon.
The arrested were identified as the truck driver Layes Uddin, 35, son of Abdul Haque of Bhitrikhel in Goainghat of Sylhet, and his assistant Miraj Ali, 32, son of Arman Ali of Boalia in Rajshahi, the RAB said.
RAB 9 media officer Md Moniruzzaman confirmed and said that they challenged a truck loaded with 2,240 kilogram onion at Shah Paran bypass, on the outskirts of the city, in the afternoon to see the papers of importing the onions.
Later, the onion loaded truck was seized and its driver and his helper also were arrested as they failed show any document of importing or buying the goods, the RAB official said.
