A court here on Wednesday placed Rafiqul Islam, a truck driver, on a five-day remand in connection with the snatching of three convicted JMB militants from a prison van in Trishal upazila.
Judge Farzana Yeasmin of the Cognisance Court-4 passed the order when Majedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of district Detective Branch of police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court, seeking a seven-day remand.
Tipped off, a team of police arrested Rafiqul Islam from his house at
Nitaiganj in Bhaluka upazila on June 9 for his alleged involvement in the JMB snatching incident.
Miscreants snatched the three convicted JMB members – Rakib Hasan Russel, Boma Mizan and Salahuddin-from a prison van killing a policeman at Signboard in Trishal on February 23.
However, one of the snatched JMB men – Rakib Hasan Russel – and Zakaria and Rasel were held hours later. Rakib was killed in a gunfight with police in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail the following day.
