Three people, including a couple, were killed when a truck rammed an autorickshaw in Paba Upazila, Rajshahi.
The accident took place at the Muraripur area under Damkura police station on the Rajshahi-Chapainawabganj highway on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Abdus Sattar of Ghoshialpara village in Gomstapur Upazila of Chapainawabganj, his wife Ferdousi Begum and autorickshaw driver Ansar Ali of Bogla area of the same Upazila.
An autorickshaw passenger named Raihan Ali Shuvo was injured in the incident. His condition is also critical.
Witnesses said the CNG-run autorickshaw was going towards Rajshahi with four passengers from Chapainawabganj. As it reached Muraripur area, the autorickshaw was crushed by a Chapainawabganj-bound truck, leaving driver Ansar Ali and Ferdousi Begum dead on the spot. Ferdousi’s husband Abdus Sattar died while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in critical condition.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Golam Ruhul Quddus said as Ferdousi was ill, she along with her husband Abdus Sattar was going to Rajshahi in an autorickshaw to visit doctor.
He added that the truck was recovered after the accident but the driver and helper managed to flee the scene. The bodies of the three are in the morgue of RMCH Hospital.
