Tributes paid to photojournalist Zahirul Huq

Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela (BSKM) held a condolence meeting and doa mahfil in memory of Bangabandhu’s personal photographer elderly photojournalist Haji Zahirul Huq at the National Press Club here on Friday. Food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam attended the programme as the chief guest, Talukder Md. Yunus MP, Dr Durgadas Bhattacharjee and Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) secretary general Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, among others, addressed it. Bangabandhu Shishu Kishore Mela president Shirin Akter Manju presided over the programme.
Food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam said the death of Zahirul Haq is an irreparable loss to journalism arena. Zahirul Huq was a real Muslim and nurtured non-communal spirit and he earned reputation during the ’69 mass upsurge and country’s Liberation War, he added.
The minister said Zahirul Huq was personal photographer of Bangabandhu and he photographed most of the family photos of Bangabandhu and he also shot many important photos during the country’s Liberation War.
Qamrul Islam said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was spoiling democratic atmosphere by giving provocative speeches and spreading political falsehood at different programmes of iftar party.
The food minister thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for what he said Bangladesh victory in the maritime boundary arbitration with India.
