Tributes paid to Ajoy Roy Body donated to Birdem

People from different professions paid tributes to Dhaka University Professor Ajoy Roy at Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday.
The body of Professor Ajoy was taken to the Shaheed Minar at 11:20 am and kept till 12:35 pm for people of different organisations to pay respect by placing wreaths.
From Shaheed Minar, the body has been taken to Birdem Hospital as he donated his body to the hospital. Confirming this to media, Anujit Roy, son of the Professor, said, “His body has been handed over to the authorities of BIRDEM hospital as per his wish.”
“My father wished to donate his body and informed us the matter before many days of his death,” he said.
In 2012, Ajoy Roy received Ekushey Padak, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh.
Professor Ajoy, father of slain writer and blogger Avijit Roy, died at Birdem Hospital in the city on Monday at the age of 85.
He was Founder and President of the Shiksha Andolan Mancha (Platform For Education-Movement) and Chairman of Shampriti Mancha (Platform for peace-harmony-tranquillity).
He was also Editor in Chief of Mukto News a magazine, a Bengali publication for promoting free thinking and secular humanism and member of Advisory Board of the Mukto-Mona, an internet forum of free thinkers.
