UNB, Dhaka :
Participants belonging to different organisations and institutions on Sunday recalled the remarkable contributions of Dr. Aleem Al-Razee in such diverse fields as education, politics, law, human rights, social reform and philanthropy.
Among others, Dr. Aleem Al-Razee Memorial Council, Sandhani National Eye Donation Society (SNEDS) and Dr. Aleem Al-Razee High School in Tangail took up separate programmes to mark Dr. Razee’s death anniversary in a befitting manner.
Dr. Aleem Al-Razee High School, established in 1964 in Razee’s native village of Lauhati, Delduar, Tangail, has a combined primary section with girls outnumbering boys.
The school and the entire village wore a somber look as a cross-section of local community representing the elite, religious and youth leaders, guardians and teachers along with students converged on the school premises.
They joined together in common grief to commemorate the school’s founding father who left his distinct mark not only on his rustic village but also on the national level.
The school unveiled a programme with a difference and off the beaten track, where the stakeholders, the students took charge and asserted a leadership role.
The doa mehfil (mass prayer), was followed by recitation from the Holy Quran, singing of hymns in praise of Allah and the Prophet (peace be on him) and rendering of Islamic ghazals (religious songs) all by the budding masters.
A student of class X read out an essay dwelling on the life and works of Dr. Razee. In his article, the student portrayed Dr. Razee, the revered savant, as a ‘leading light’ who rose to the height of glory by dint of his merit, perseverance and will-power conquering all hurdles and adversities standing in the way of his success.
The headmaster of the school also gave an outline of Razee’s bio turning the spotlight on Razee’s extraordinary and incomparable talent and photographic memory which he acquired through constant practice and concentration. In this connection, he cited a parable in circulation on Dr. Razee and urged the students to imitate him to mould them into able citizens of the country.
Prof. Dr. Ali Asgar Morol and Prof. Dr. AKM Salek, president and secretary general respectively of SNEDS, in their deliberations described Dr. Razee as a pre-eminent scholar in Arabic and Persian and a vastly learned person in Islamic studies who embodied the true spirit of Islam that enjoins on its followers to adopt a path of deliverance and self-effacement through practising charity, sacrifice and benefaction.
SNEDS leader added, according to this tenet, Dr. Razee gifted his eyes posthumously so that two blind persons could view the myriad wonders of the world while at the same time make a living for themselves and their families.
His act of eye donation proved beyond doubt that there is no religious bar to such a donation, rather Islam commands its faithfuls to do good voluntarily to other fellow human beings especially on one’ s death leaving behind a rare and invaluable gift of the eyes, the speakers concluded.
