The Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Anisul Huq on Wednesday said the government is going to set up Tribunals in seven divisions of the country to prosecute the human smuggles.
“We have sent a proposal to the Public Administration and Finance Ministries regarding the formation of Tribunals in the seven divisions to prevent human trafficking. I also asked the concerned people to place the proposal to the Cabinet meeting as early as possible. Hopefully, it would not delay,” he told the reporters at Secretariat. “We have decided to constitute the Tribunals in the divisions instead of districts or upazilas so that the victims get fair justice. If the trials are held in the victims’ own areas, they might be deprived of justice,” Huq said.
The government’s move came in the wake of international crises of migration after thousands of migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar were found abandoned on territorial waters of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Lured by the human traffickers, they embark on the risky voyages to go to Malaysia to find better life. But the human traffickers demanded ransom holding them hostage in the remote forests of Thailand and Malaysia. A total of 557 cases were filed on human trafficking so far and, of these, charge sheets were submitted in 257 cases, the Minister said.
