The Joint Forces have rescued two tribal youths, Sourav Deyya Chakma Tintin and Nabajit Chakma Ricky, alive after four days of their abduction from Kengelchhari in the Manikchhari area of Rangamati for ransom.They were rescued around 11:15pm on Friday from Majorpara, which is located in between Khagrachhari and Rangamati, after conducting a raid there. Confirming the news, Khagrachhari Regional Staff Officer Major Mainul Haque said, “The rescued youths are now safe and kept under protection in Mohalchhari zone of Khagrachhari.” The joint forces have also arrested three suspected kidnappers, including driver Udayan Chakma.Tintin and Ricky were picked up by unknown miscreants on April 14 evening while returning home on a CNG auto-rickshaw after celebrating the Biju, the biggest festival of some indigenous communities in Chittagong Hill Tracts, in Khagrachhari with friends. Later the abductors demanded $200,000 from Tintin’s family over the phone. However, it could not be confirmed immediately whether a ransom was paid for their release.Ricky, a friend of Tintin, works at a private company in the capital.Sourav and Ricky said that they can’t tell who were involved in the abduction. They also said that although they were moved to more than one place, but they were not tortured. The members of Joint Forces expressed gratitude to the local people for assistance during the raid.
