The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday framed charges against former lawmaker Golam Maula Rony in a case filed for assaulting journalists in 2013.
Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakraborty of the CMM Court framed charges in presence of Rony, who was a former Awami League MP, elected from Patuakhali. The court fixed October 20 to record the depositions of the witnesses.
The case record says, on July 20, 2013, Rony assaulted the Independent Television’s reporter Imtiaz Momin and
their cameraperson Mohsin Mukul in his Topkhana Road office in the capital. The authorities of the television immediately filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station against Rony alleging that he had beaten up their journalists.
Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Abu Zafar submitted the charge sheet of the case in the court against Rony on June 26, 2014. However, the process of the case remained adjourned following a revision case filed with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka.
