A tri-nation meeting on hydro-electric power project will be held in August to reach agreement for hydro-electric power project, ministry sources said.
The experts and high officials of India, Bhutan and Bangladesh will participate in the meeting. Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other international financial institutions have expressed keen interest in the hydro-electric project.
Bangladesh is working to increase connectivity network with neighbouring country in different ways, including inter-country power grid line construction and importing electricity. Besides, a body is working to reduce the trade gap
 between the neighbouring countries.
As part of initiative, India, Nepal and Bhutan have increased visiting of business delegations and exchanging technical know-how on different issues, sources said.
Meanwhile, Bhutanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Pema Choden has called Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in the hydro-electric power projects in Bhutan.
“The Bangladeshi entrepreneurs can invest in the hydro-electric sector of Bhutan and enjoy the opportunity of exporting it to the neighboring countries like India under a Free Trade Agreement”, she said adding that the investment of Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in agriculture sector in Bhutan will help boost the production in both the countries.
Bangladesh and Bhutan have been maintaining friendly trade relations since the independence of Bangladesh. But large trade gap between the two countries has emerged over the decades.
A data of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) said that in the fiscal 2012-2013, Bangladesh imported goods worth $24.7 million from Bhutan and exported only $1.82 million.
Bangladesh imports vegetables, prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and vinegar; tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes, mineral products, textiles and textile articles, base metals and articles of base metal, machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment, parts like sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, parts and accessories of such articles.
Bangladesh exports mainly frozen foods, agro-products, chemical products and woven garments to Bhutan.
