A week-long tree plantation program jointly organized by the Arboriculture Centre and Tree Plantation and Beautification Committee of Dhaka University (DU) begun Tuesday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban premises of the university. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the program as chief guest by planting a green lawn sapling at the Senate-Building Compound.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Director of the Arboriculture Centre Prof Dr Mihir Lal Shaha, Acting Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman, Inspector of Colleges Dr Bimal Kanti Guha, President of DU Officers Association Syed Ali Akbar and General Secretary Md. Ramiz Uddin were present, among others, on this occasion.
DU VC Prof Arefin Siddique stressed the need for tree plantation in a planned-way as well as nursing saplings properly. He said, we have to plant different types of saplings in both rural and urban areas to face climate change and air pollution issues.
The VC paid glowing tributes to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the month mourning. Bangabandhu had started tree plantation program during his regime to make Bangladesh a greeneries country, he added.
