Jute and Textiles Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi and State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid on Wednesday planted trees on the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) premises to mark the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time.
“We are planting trees all over the country as per the instructions of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with a view to plant one crore trees in the Mujib Year,” Golam Dastagir Gazi said.
The minister further said “Without Bangabandhu we could not have achieved our independence,” a press release said.
“In his historic speech on the 7th of March, Bangabandhu said, ‘You cannot keep us in check.’…Now we are standing with our heads high in an independent country because of him.” said the minister, added the press release.
Khalid said, “To follow the program taken by PM Sheikh Hasina of planting one crore trees all over the country on the occasion of Mujb Year, we are planting trees on the JS premises under the direction of JS Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury.”
The state minister also stated that a total of ninety-nine thousand trees have been planted in ninety-nine wards in his constituency on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said the release.
To fulfill the target of planting 35-500 saplings on the JS premises, the tree planting program was inaugurated on 26th July.
It was decided that all the members of parliament will participate in the tree planting program on the JS premises in phases.
