The doctors of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) have performed second surgery on Abul Bajandar, known as the ‘Tree Man’ for large, rare bark like warts in his right hands and legs.
Professor Md Abul Kalam, head of DMCH’s Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit, and five other doctors successfully conducted the operation on the upper portion of Abul’s right hand and palm on Saturday. After operation, Prof Abul Kalam told journalists that Abul needed 13 to 15 surgeries to cure.
Earlier on February 20, five fingers of his right hand were operated.
Burns unit Chief Coordinator Prof Dr Shamanta Lal Sen said that Bajandar’s health condition was fine after the surgery. “We will operate on his left hand in three weeks. Gradually, his two legs will also undergo surgical procedures,” he said.
Known as Tree Man, Abul Bajandar, 25, from Paikgachha in Khulna, has been suffering from a disease known as Epidermodysplasia Verruciformis – a rare and inherited skin disorder – for the past seven years.
The fourth man in the world with the disease, Abul was admitted to the hospital on January 30.
