Treatment begins at DMCH

Dhaka Medical College Hospital has joined other government hospitals to treat coronavirus patients.
In the first phase, they will treat 300 coroanvirus patients and are ready to admit 600-700 more patients in the next phase. DMCH will stand beside people during this national crisis, said DMCH Director Brigadier General AKM Nasir Uddin.
He said, “The DMCH has capacity to offer treatment to 1,000 coronavirus patients. At the DMCH, the lab has been set up at the virology department on the fourth floor.
He said suspected patients were still advised to visit the other hospitals designated for coronavirus tests and treatment as the DMCH would initially conduct the tests only on its inpatients and outpatients.The burn unit building in front of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency unit has been prepared for the treatment of the coronavirus patients. An isolation unit and intensive care unit (ICU) have been installed there for COVID-19 patients.
AKM Nasir Uddin said “We have built a team comprising experts from all fields. We’re confident. The country’s largest hospital will stand beside people in this crisis period.”
The first coronavirus case was detected in Bangladesh on 8 March.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), as of 02 May 7,894 people tested positive for coronavirus and 170 of them died of the novel virus in the country. So far 174 patients have recovered.
Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, Kurmitola General Hospital, Mugda Medical College Hospital and Old Dhaka’s Dhaka Mohanagar General Hospital have been treating the coronavirus patients since its outbreak in the country. Some of other hospitals have already joined hands.
