Traveling to Cox’s Bazar by train no longer a dream!

Once upon a time, the dream of the people of the country was to travel by train to Cox’s Bazar. That long-cherished dream is about to be fulfilled very shortly. Travel hungered people will be annoyed by the traffic jam on the highway. Work on the railway mega project is nearing completion.
The project is being implemented by two Chinese contractors, viz China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC). Besides, Tama Construction Company of Bangladesh and Max Infrastructure Limited are also associated with the project.
Under the project, out of 128 km railway, 88 km from Dohazari to Ramu in Chittagong, 12 km from Ramu to Cox’s Bazar and 28 km from Ramu to Ghumdhum are being constructed. Besides, 25 bridges including four big bridges are being constructed. Large bridges are being built over the Matamuhuri , Shankha and the Bankkhali rivers.
In the meantime, a railway track has been laid up to two kilometers in Cox’s Bazar. Along with that, construction of iconic stations, small and big bridges, culverts, level crossings and highway crossings are also going on. The Dohazari-Cox’s Bazar railway station will have stations at Satkania and Lohagara in Chittagong, Chakaria, Dulahazara, Eidgah, Ramu, Sadar and Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar and Ghumdhum in Naikhyangchhari.
So far, about 72 percent of the project has been completed. Once the construction of this project worth Tk 16,000 crore is completed, the communication system with Cox’s Bazar will change radically. The people concerned think that Cox’s Bazar will go a long way in economic development including tourism potential.
This was revealed from the Project Director Md. Mofizur Rahman. He told that ” we are trying our level best to complete the project works in due time and in the meantime, 72pc works of the project have been completed and hoped will be able to complete the remaining works in June next year.
