Transport workers block road in Jessore, BGB man closed

Transport workers blocked Jessore- Benapole road for about one hour on Friday protesting the assault of one of their fellow during checking of vehicles.
 The authority closed the responsible constable after the incident, said Lt Col Matirur Rahman, Director, 26 Border Guard Battalion.
The BGB Director told The New Nation that a BGB man was closed and attached to 26 Border Guard Battalion as he reportedly assaulted a transport worker after being non-cooperated by them during checking of vehicles on information that Indian goods were coming.
 ‘A BGB team of south-west region, Jessore, was doing the job of checking at around 1:30pm at Natunhat on Jessore- Benapole road’, he added. A high BGB official resolved the situation reaching the spot, Lt Col Matiur further said.
Shahidul Islam, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station and local sources told The New Nation that a number of vehicles remained stranded on either sides of the road as transport workers blocked the road at Natunhat protesting the assault on a transport worker. The blockade was withdrawn at around 2:30pm.
Azizul Alam Mintu, President, Paribahan Sangstha Sramik Samity also confirmed the matter to journalists.
