Police and RAB personnel opened blank fire to disperse the angry transport workers on Wednesday noon when they attacked Madaripur Sadar Police Station. The agitated transport workers were vandalizing the Madaripur Sadar Police Station to protest the detention of one of their fellow transport men.
Mongal Talukder , a transport worker and witness of a murder case, was detained by police around 11: 00am at Madaripur Sadar Police Station. On hearing the news, Khairul Hassan Nitul, acting President of the District Roads & Transport Workers’
Union, asked the OC Emdadul Haque to release Mongal Talukder.
As the OC declined to free Mongal, some angry workers ransacked the Police Station premises around 12:00 am. The workers broke the delivery center of the Police Station along with the doors and windows. They also damaged the motor bikes kept outside. A group of RAB force were present inside the Police Station during the attack. At one stage, both the RAB and Police force fired blank shots to disperse the workers.
Khairul Hasan Nitul, acting President of the District Roads & Transport Workers’ Union, said ,”The workers are in no way responsible for this incident. Instead the blame can be put on Police and RAB force,” he said.
