Staff Reporter :The indefinite transport strike called by the Bus Owners and Workers Oikya Parishad in south-western region of the country has been withdrawn. State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Monday evening told media that the decision was taken at a meeting between the transport owners-workers and the representatives of the government. The meeting was held in the Home Ministry in the afternoon presided over by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan. Secretary General of the Road Transport Owners’ Association Khandaker Enayetullah, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation Osman Ali and some other leaders of transport sector also attended the meeting. The strike began on May 19 on 10 routes of Khulna division, including the Dhaka-Aricha-Khulna route, protesting the arrest of three staff of a bus operator ‘Shohag Paribahan’ and to press home their three other demands. Barisal region also joined the strike later. Yesterday was the seventh day of the strike in the country’s south-western region. Police arrested the three staff following a bus robbery at Madhukhali in Faridpur district on May 19. A gang of robbers stormed the Benapole-bound bus of ‘Shohag Paribahan’ from Dhaka. The robbers looted cash, ornaments and other valuables from the bus passengers. Police Superintended of Faridpur Jamil Hasan said that the police arrested the bus staff on the basis of allegation filed by passengers of the bus.
