Transport owners have decided to operate their vehicles in the capital today despite BNP calling a day-long hartal on the day.
“We don’t accept the hartal,” Khandaker Enayet Ullah, secretary general of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, told the media on Saturday night.
“The elections to two Dhaka city corporations were held Saturday in a democratic manner. Fearing defeat in the polls, BNP has called the hartal to create anarchy,” Enayet Ullah added.
The decision of the association came soon after BNP called the day-long hartal — from dawn till dusk — today in Dhaka city, rejecting the results of Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections.
At a press conference in the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced that they will observe the dawn-to-dusk hartal today.
