As fuel prices increased, passenger fare of road transports on Barishal-Dhaka and domestic routes have increased by 40 percent.
Earlier, the fare per kilometer was one Tk 0.80. Now it has increased to Tk 2.20.
However so far, the launch authority has not decided to increase the launch fare on the Dhaka-Barishal sea route, but the passengers on the domestic river routes are charging Tk 30 to Tk 40 more per passenger.
Common passengers have suffered greatly. Forced to travel to the destination by counting extra money.
According to the government decision, from early Saturday August 06, the new fixed bus increased road transport fare executed from Sunday morning due to the increase in the price of fuel oil.
Also, the fare of diesel-petrol-octane vehicles has increased and so passengers are forced to pay extra money, said Kishore Kumar Dey, secretary , Barishal district bus owners group.
Meanwhile, BIWTA and Launch Owners Association have not decided to increase the launch fare on the Dhaka-Barishal river-route. Present deck rent is Tk 250, single non AC Tk 900 and double cabin Tk 1800 is being booked till Sunday.
A meeting of Launch Owners Association would be held at Dhaka on Monday.
However, the launch authority is taking Tk30 to Tk40 extra from the passengers on the internal Bhola-Barishal-Patarhat and other internal river routes .
