Chittagong Bureau :
The students of the Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology are suffering from acute crisis of transport .
Only seven student buses are running to carry the students from city to Raozan University campus. Sources said out of 5000 students of the university, about 50% reside in the city and regularly attend classes in the campus situated about 30 kilometers off the Chittagong city. The city based students are miserably suffering to reach the campus in time lack of university buses or any other private carriers . The university situated on Chittagong-Kaptai Highway and very few numbers of private buses are plying in this highway. So lack of university student buses, students totally depends on private transports .
The transport cost on private buses, taxis are most costly which unaffordable for the students. Our CUET correspondent quoting the sources of the university told that in five residential halls in the campus, ony 1700 students can stay beside one dormitory can accommodate not more than two hundred. And hence, 60% students had to stay outside the campus either in city or in any adjacent areas.
To resolve the acute transportation crisis of the students and easy communications for the locals of Raozan and Rangunia upazila, Chairman of the Parliamentary standing committee on Ministry of Railway ABM Fazle Karim MP has taken epoch making steps to install rail track upto CUET campus by extending the rail line from Kalurghat Janali station towards CUET recently .
After implementation of the lawmaker ‘s dream of railway service on Chittagong-CUET line will mitigate the growing demand of smooth transportations for the students as well as the locals will be benefitted at maximum extent, sources said.
