BSS, Barguna :
Transplantation of Aus seedlings has been progressing fast in all the six upazilas in the district during the current season amid much enthusiasm to the farmers to get desired yield.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office sources said a total of 46,355 hectares of land have been brought under Aus cultivation in the district with the production target of 1,15,000 tonnes of paddy.
Farmers of the district are now busy to prepare their land for transplanting Aus seedlings in their fields. Wooden ploughs, tractors, power tillers and deep tube-wells are being used for irrigation.
Insufficient rainfall in the areas is hampering the cultivation.
To make the cultivation a grand success, necessary measures has been taken to supply fertilisers, insecticides, electricity and other agri-inputs to the farmers. DAE also provided training to the farmers, DAE office sources said.
Besides, the commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank and many non-government organizations (NGOs) disbursed short-term loans to the farmers to help them cultivate the crop without financial problems.
