Speakers at a view-exchange meeting laid importance on ensuring transparency in the selection process of beneficiaries under social safety net programme to achieve the SDGs.
Without proper selection of beneficiaries of the social safety net programme it would be difficult to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), they said.
Press Information Department (PID) arranged the views exchange meeting on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 10 special initiatives and SDGs recently at Khulna Circuit House.
Addressing the function as the chief guest Khulna Divisional Commissioner (Dev) Nishchinta Kumar Poddar said SDGs and Prime Minster’s 10 special initiatives are supplementary to each other.
Many goals of the SDGs were set with the proposals of Bangladesh which were also reflected in the ten special initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Poddar urged the officials to be more liberal in delivering information to people and media to ensure accountability and transparency of public offices. He also laid importance on execution of national integrity strategy to stamp out corruption from the society.
With Senior Deputy Principal Information Officer (DPIO) Faizul Haque in the chair the function was addressed among others by Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain, President of Khulna Press Club SM Habib.
About 80 local journalists from electronic and print media and NGO workers took part in the views exchange meeting.
After the meeting the newsmen visited social welfare office and talked to the beneficiaries of various social safety net programmes.
