Speakers stressed time-befitting training for the grassroots level women public representatives and other potential women to flourish their leadership capacity.
They viewed leadership is always helpful for developing and infusing dynamism into the local level civic services.
They said this while addressing the inaugural session of a two-day leadership and skill development training workshop for 15 women public representatives from five Union Parishads (UPs).
Bangladesh Resource Centre for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK), a rights-based organisation, arranged the training in hall room of Gogram Union Parishad under Godagari Upazila in Rajshahi.
Gogram UP Chairman Mujibur Rahman addressed the session as chief guest with its secretary Majharul Islam in the chair. President of Godagari Upazila Press Club Alamgir Kabir, Matikata UP Panel Chairman Ismat Ara, Dewpara UP Panel Chairman Rowshan Ara, BARCIK Field Facilitator Enamul Haque and Trainer Munira Parveen also spoke.
Objectives of this training programme are to build confidence, knowledge and capacity of elected women representatives and encourage network of mutual support so that they can fulfill their obligations to their voters.
The discussants viewed that with the active participation of the women representatives, many social problems like early marriage, polygamy, drug-addiction, dowry, gender discrimination and violence against women could be reduced to a greater extent.
