Road accidents are on the increase in Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district.
Under the auspices of Katakhali Highway PS in Fakirhat Upazila a one day training course was held in the PS premises on Monday morning for bus-truck drivers and helpers of different transport sectors in order to check the road mishaps with K M Azizul Islam, OC of the Highway PS in the chair. The training course was ceremonially inaugurated by Highway Police Super Md. Jahangir Hossain.
As many as 45 drivers and helpers of bus, trucks and micros participated in the training course. Md. Hafizur Rahman, ASP, Circle, Ataur Rahman, O/C, Noapara PS, Emdad Hossain, O/C, Kharnia Police outpost, Shaikh Abdul Majed, President of Policing Committee of Katakhali Highway PS, Md. Farid Shaikh, Joint General Secretary of Rupsa Bus Owners’ Association and others were present in the training course. Bus drivers Robiul Islam and Eunus Hossain and micro driver Opiar Hossain were awarded with prizes for doing well in the examination, held after the end of the training course.
It was shown in the training road mishaps took place in the last one month of the current calendar year in Fakirhat PS. During the period Jhnatu Shil (41) was killed on Khulna-Mongla Highway, Rasel (25) of Naihati under Rupsa Upazila, Abu Bakkar (45) of Pagla village at Kathaltal turn on Bagerhat-Khulna Highway, Sujan Shaikh (20) of Bahirdia village at Khulna-Mawa Biswa Road turn, Belal (45) of Khuln and Malek (35) of Magura at Meghnishtala on Khulna-Mawa Highway and Pinjira Begum (62) of Pagla Uttarpara at Palerhat on Dhaka-Khulna Biswa Road were killed when they run over by the speeding vehicles. Most of those accidents took place when the victims tried to cross the highways.
K M Azizul Islam, Officer-in-charge of Kaakhali Highway PS told, in order to check the road mishaps steps were taken to train up the drivers of various vehicles. He added, step was also taken to create awareness among the people.
