Train-truck collision at unguarded Nilphamari level crossing 1 killed, 2 injured

Train and brick load truck collided in Nilphamari. The truck’s helper Shakil Hossain (22) died on the spot. The incident took place at around 8 am on Tuesday at Kazirhat unprotected Leven Crossing near Chilahati railway station in Domar upazila. Two people were injured in the incident. They are truck driver Hasan Mahmud (35) and brick trader Anisur Rahman (40). They were admitted to Domar Upazila Hospital.
As a result of this accident, the country’s rail communication through Chilahati, Domar and Nilphamari has been cut off. The Khulna-bound intercity Rupsha Express is stuck at Chilahati railway station.
Eyewitness Jewel Basunia said a brick-laden truck (Dhaka Metro T-22-6175) from Naogaon was crossing the Kazirhat label crossing. At that time the Khulna Mail train leaving from Chilahati was going towards Khulna. That label crossing is unprotected. There is no Getman. There is a sideboard of the railway department. There is no gateman. In this situation, the brick truck collided with the train while crossing the label crossing. Shakil, a helper of the truck, was killed on the spot and two others, including a truck driver and a brick trader, were injured. Truck driver and helper’s house is in Naogaon. And the house of the brick trader is in Bodapara Kazirhat. He came to the village and sold bricks in the village.
Chilahati Railway Station Master Ashraful Islam said the Khulna-bound “Khulna Mail” train left at 7.50 am. Six minutes later, the train collided with a brick-laden truck at Kazirhat Label Crossing, 5 km from Chilahati. He said the rescue operation will start as soon as the rescue train arrives from Parbatipur.
The rescue operation did not start as the rescue train did not reach till 10 am. As a result, the railway communication with this route has been closed all over the country.
