The cross-border train services between Bangladesh and India to remain halted again for seven days.
The train services resumed on May 19 after remaining suspended for over two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Besides, Mitali Express started from Jalpaiguri in this month.
However, Covid-19 is not responsible for this time cross-border train service suspension.
Bangladesh government has requested India to stop the service, claimed Indian authority.
It is known that Kolkata-Dhaka Maitri Express, Khulna-Kolkata Bondhan Express and Mitali Express will remain halted from July 7 to July 14. The Bangladesh government has written to the central government of India informing them that the Bangladesh Railway Department temporarily took the decision.
Eid festival is ahead. That is why the railway service is expected to be closed for the time being.
The Maitree Express on the Dhaka-Kolkata section and the Bandhan Express on the Khulna-Kolkata section restarted their service lull of two years.
The number of passengers on the trains was fewer as the authorities got a few days to sell advance tickets instead of the usual one month for the cross-border train services, said a Bangladesh Railway official.
