Chittagong Bureau :One person was killed on the spot and several others received injuries when a train derailed at Barabkunda level crossing under Sitakunda upazila, 20 kilometers off to Chittagong station, following violent collision with a speedy covered van.The identity of the victim could not be known immediately. The collision occurred between Bijoy Express train coming from Mymensingh and Dhaka bound covered van at the crossing.ASP of Sitakunda Circle Saiful Islam said the incident took place at around 5:30am. He said, five compartments of the train derailed due to the mishap. Following the inoperative railway track at Barabkunda, the Subarna Express, Mohanagar Provati and Meghna Express could not leave the station in due time.All rail communications between Chittagong and rest of the country remained suspended till filing this report. Instantly, Bangladesh Railway, East Zone, constituted a three-member probe committee headed by Divisional Engineer Abidur Rahman, Additional Transportation Officer Rokanuzzaman said.Two other members are Divisional Transportation Officer Md. Iftikhar and the Divisional Mechanical Engineer Saiful Islam. The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report as soon as possible, sources said. Chittagong Railway Station Master Abul Kalam Azad said rail link between the port city and the rest of the country was snapped after the accident. The rail communication, however, was resumed more than eight hours after the accident.
