Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have restricted vehicular movement around Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital for today in view of a mass reception programme in honour of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. DMP said it in a statement on Thursday.
Ruling Awami League on June 19 declared that it would hold a reception programme on Saturday, July 21, in honour of PM Sheikh Hasina for getting Doctor of Literature (LittD) degree from Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) of India.
The roads from Shahbagh intersection to Matsya Bhaban and TSC to Doel Chattar will remain off-limits from 1:00pm till end of the reception programme, according to the DMP statement.
Besides, transports moving towards Suhrawardy Udyan and Dhaka University (DU) campus may be diverted to Banglamotor, Kakrail Church, UBL, Zero Point, Golap Shah’s shrine in Gulistan, Chan Khar Pool intersection, Bakshi Bazar, Palashi intersection, Nilkhet, and Katabon crossing..
The leaders and the activists of the Bangladesh Awami League coming from Mirpur have been directed to park their vehicles in Nilkhet area.
And those coming from Mohakhali are advised to drive through Moghbazar-Kakrail Church-Nightingale-UBL-Zero Point-High Court to Doel Chattar and park their vehicles at DU Gymnasium, according to the DMP directive.
Drivers of the vehicles coming through Farmgate-Sonargaon intersection-Shahbagh intersection have been directed to turn right from TSC and park at Mall Chattar.
Also, those coming from Jatrabari, Wari and Bongshal areas are advised to drive by Zero Point-High Court to Doel Chattar and park the vehicles at DU Gymnasium, while transports coming from Lalbagh and Kamrangirchar areas would have to be parked at Palashi-Nilkhet.
The reception programme will begin at 4:00pm today. People from all walks of life, leaders and activists of the party, and elites are advised to attend the programme.
