Traffic management rescheduling to ease congestions in Ctg Port

To ease traffic congestions within the Chittagong Port, traffic management is being rescheduled very shortly.
This matter of rescheduling traffic management was discussed in the meeting held at Bandar Bhaban on Tuesday with Port Chairman Rear Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed.
Among others city mayor AJM Nasiruddin, Police commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondol, Additional Police Commissioner AKM Shahidur Rahmn, Customs Commissioner Hossain Ahmed, Member CPA Commodore Shahin Rahman, Director (Security) Lt. Col. Alamgir Kabir, Secretary Omar Faruk, Terminal Manager Enamul Karim were present in the meeting.
Port sources said the matter of haphazard parking of trucks, covered vans in and outside of port and the delivery of consignments through trucks and covered vans quickly were seriously discussed in the meeting.
The meeting also discussedthe transfer of truck terminal from Mazirghat to port connecting road and simplifications of truck booking and selection of exit gate than the present transportation system.
Port sources further said under present existing systems delivery of consignments from port could not be done in the morning period due to truck bookings from Mazirghat terminal.
The meeting was told that if the truck booking is done one day before, then the delivery may be effected from 9 am every day which may ease traffic movement to maximum extents.
Member (Harbour) Shahin Rahman told the New Nation that to ease the traffic congestions in port area as well as in city , traffic management of the Ctg Port will be rescheduled very shortly and after scrutinizing the proposals for rescheduling the traffic management of port, the final decision will be taken very shortly.
