A traditional horse race competition entertained thousands of rural people at village Palichara Keshobpur under Saddyapuskorini union in Sadar upazila of Rangpur district on Friday afternoon.
The villagers organised the horse race in a vast field where the enthusiastic people, including men, women, housewives, adolescents, youths, students, children and farmers from neighbouring villages gathered.
Twenty-four horse riders with their own horses from different areas of Sadar, Badarganj, Taraganj, Mithapukur and Gangachara upazilas of the district took part in the competition in three separate groups.
The horse riders who secured the first, second and third places in each group, finally took part in the final round and three of the winners were awarded.
Saddyapuskorini Union Parishad Chairman Sohel Rana witnessed the horse race and distributed prizes among the champion, runner-up and second runner up of the horse race competition as the chief guest.
Earlier in the afternoon, chairman of nearby Chandanpat union parishad Aminur Rahman inaugurated the horse race as the guest of honour.
