Traditional boat race held in Khulna

The 13th traditional boat race in Khulna was held in the Rupsha river here last afternoon with huge enthusiasm and festivity.
The boat race started from Custom Ghat-1 area in the city at around 2.00 pm and ended at Khanjahan Ali Bridge area at Rupsha upazila in the district at around 4.00pm.
The race organized by City’s Social and Cultural Center (Nagor Samajik O Sangskritic Kendro), Grameen Phone Company Ltd cooperation with Khulna District Administration.
A total of 34 boats from different upazilas in Khulna and Satkhira, Gopalganj, Narail and Madaripur took part in the race, said Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, advisor of Nagor Samajik O Sangskritik Kendra.
Thousands of people including women and children from different parts of the districts enjoyed the race on the bank of the river Rupsha.
Chaired by Khulna Deputy Commissioner Md Helal Hossain, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the function as chief guest while, parliament members Mizanur Rahman Mizan and Abdus Salam Murshedi, Khulna divisional commissioner Lokman Hossain Miah, KMP Commissioner Humayun Kabir, Circle head of Grameenphone Md. Awulad Hossain, advisor, president and secretary of the Nagor Samajik O Sangskritic Kendro Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, Molla Maruf Rashid and Moniruzzaman Rahim , among others, were present.
