UNB, Dhaka :
Local software and digital media firm Tradeshi Limited has announced partnership with Alibaba.com as its Global Service Partner for Bangladesh to promote local ‘export-ready’ enterprises through digital marketing and e-commerce.
Tradeshi Limited will develop digital export marketing capabilities of local enterprises, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), through the use of Alibaba.com.
This partnership includes providing content services for Alibaba Gold Members, development of Alibaba’s Bangladesh Channel (bd.alibaba.com) and training workshops.
The announcement came at a programme held at a gallery in the city’s Dhanmondi area on Wednesday.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak addressed the event as the chief guest.
Co-founder and chairman of Tradeshi Limited Rajib Hossain, who is a grandson of the country’s first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, its co-founder and managing director Shadab Parvez and president of E-commerce Association of Bangladesh Rajib Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
United News of Bangladesh (UNB), the country’s leading news agency, was the media partner of the event.
At the programme, Jack Zhang, Alibaba.com’s director of strategy for business-to-business (B2B), in a video message said they have a plan to strengthen more than 5,000 SMEs in Bangladesh within the next three-five years to enable the enterprises do cross-border trade via e-commerce.
Addressing the event, the state minister said the day will be a memorable one in the e-commerce revolution in Bangladesh as a large window is opened to earn foreign currency with the launching of Tradeshi’s services.
Palak said the promotion of digital business is not only a national strategy, but also of the entire world. “The world is rapidly changing. If we can’t adjust with the change, we’ll slip from the global competition.”
Noting that some US$ 28 billion out of the country’s total US$ 30 billion export comes from the readymade garment sector, he said trade diversification is needed for Bangladesh to become a middle-income country.
Rajib Hossain said only 10 percent large companies control over 80 percent of the country’s total export, and that the share of SMEs in the export is insignificant.
“As our company has become the local partner of Alibaba.com, we will support diversification of business as Alibaba.com services and products are very diversified,” he said.
Shadab Parvez said Tradeshi will work for capacity-building with SMEs and manufacturers on B2B digital marketing, business development and e-commerce in Bangladesh by arranging training and workshops.
It will also empower Bangladeshi SMEs and manufacturers leverage additional global online platforms like www.strikingly.com to easily communicate their products’ and services’ value propositions across different markets, cultures and languages, he added.
