Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Monday urged the traders to sell onion at the price fixed by the government, otherwise actions will be taken against them.
The Mayor said this while visiting the city’s Palashi kitchen market during a special drive conducted there by the DSCC’s executive magistrates. The executive magistrates launched the special drive through mobile courts yesterday in order to curb the price hike of onion.
“The drives will go on until the prices returns to normal. We will bring the market under control through strict monitoring,” the mayor further said.
Sayeed Khokon said, “If any wholesale dealers are found stocking onions now, actions will be taken against him.”
Besides, during a view-exchange meeting with businessmen at the Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka the Mayor also urged them to sell onions for the next two weeks without profits.
“For some reason, prices of onions have gone beyond the purchasing power of the general people. Most of the businessmen can make profits by selling products besides onions,” he added.
He also urged the people to buy only the necessary quantity of onions to avert pressure on the supply.
Mentionable that, TCB has started Open Market Sales (OMS) of onion at Tk 45 per kg across the country from September 30, but the government has not fixed any price of onion yet.
