Trader rescued hours after kidnap in Benapole; 2 held

Police arrested two kidnappers and rescued a cattle trader from a house at Putkhali here on Friday, eight hours of his abduction.
The arrestees were identified as Sakkarul, 33, son of Khorshed Ali of Goyra village, and Abdul Mannan, 35, son of Nasiruddin of Kagajpukur village in Benapole Port area.
The victim was identified as Sarwar Member, a cattle trader and son of Rokon Sheikh of Faridpur district.
Police said Sarwar used to go to Putkhali cattle market for buying cattle.
On Friday, two people picked up Sarwar at gunpoint while he was going to the cattle market for buying cattle.
Later they demanded Tk5 lakh as ransom from the family members of Sarwar over phone.
Following a complaint lodged by Sarwar’s family, a team of Benapole Port Police Station conducted a drive in Putkhali area and rescued Sarwar, with his hands and legs tied, from a house there.
Police also arrested two people for their alleged involvement in the kidnap, said Shahabur Rahman, sub-inspector of the police station.
