Former MP from Lakshmipur MA Awal and one of his hired goons Zahirul Islam Babu were sent to jail today after their bails in trader Shahinuddin murder case were rejected.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter passed the order after investigator, Inspector Syed Iftekhar Hossain of Detective Branch of Police, produced Awal and Babu before the court on completion of their four-day remand in the case.
In the forwarding report, the IO said Awal and Babu gave important information about the murder which was being verified.
Moreover, Babu was present at the site of the crime. So, the IO appealed to the court to confine them in jail until the investigation is completed. Meanwhile, Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akhter recorded confessional statement of another accused Nur Mohammad Hasan after the same IO produced him at her chamber on completion of his four-day remand in the case. After the statement, the magistrate sent him to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
In his statement, Hasan told the magistrate that Sumon Bepari, another accused, hired 10-12 goons including him to kill the victim as per direction of lawmaker Awal.
“I was present at the spot and took part in the killing,” he said in his confessional statement, an official of the court confirmed it.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested former lawmaker from Lakshmipur-1 Awal in Kishoreganj’s Bhairab area on May 20 while Hasan and Babu were arrested from Chandpur’s Haimchar and Patuakhali’s Bauphal respectively.
